About us

Who we are

Black in Mathematics (BMA) aims to bring together black mathematicians from around the world to leverage common interests and goals in research, collaborations, funding and mentorship.

The exclusion of isolation and identity problems fueled by racism, xenophobia, and hostility in the surroundings experienced in our daily lives is the essence of the Black Mathematics Association (BMA).
Black in Mathematics Association was established to identify with the underrepresented black Mathematicians that are committed to a life of growth, research at the local and international level, collaboration, training and community service to humanity and re-orientation of application of
mathematics to real-life problems to grassroots. The cycle of discrimination and marginalization has perpetuated degrees of imbalance in the academic sect and impoverished the black mathematicians the merits of progress to scientific findings.
The association engages in activities that aid and sustain partnerships with universities, private sectors, research institutes, and the growth of black Mathematicians. The prospects of the association will yield the growth of graduate students into scholars, an increase in collaborative research outputs that give solutions and interpretations to scientific problems in the community through journals, funding agencies support, and representing the concerns and the development of black Mathematicians around the globe.

Black in Mathematics Association is a non-profit organization.

Our Mission

The following states our mission and commitment:
  • Be a voice to the black mathematicians across the globe by integrating the accomplishment and exploits of black Mathematicians.
  • Establish collaborative research, and secure funding to help underrepresented scholars in graduate schools, and employment opportunities among black Mathematicians.
  • Extending the reach of black Mathematicians with influence/contribution to the industry,
accessing grants by government and private institutions to support projects that proffer solutions to real-life problems.
  • Ensuring equity in academia and industry (private and government institutions) through science
    communication, outreach, and professional training.
  • Using our professional expertise to promote scientific findings
  • Committed to the career advancement of early career researchers in Mathematics and a responsible association.
